History
German-Israeli Scientific Symposium ”Water is Life”
7 – 8 of December 2005, Jerusalem
This year we celebrate the 40th anniversary of the diplomatic relations between Israel and Germany. During these 40 years and even before, bilateral cooperation in all fields of research began and have been expanded ever since. This fruitful partnership started in 1959 when the Max Planck Society made its first contacts with the Weizmann Institute. Since then a number of research-organizations and programs on both sides developed a close network of collaborations.
Water research was one of the first topics to be addressed jointly and will also remain a central theme in the future. This two-day symposium reviews the history and achievements of water research and examines current priorities as well as common goals for the future. The presentations are designed for scientists but also invite a broader public with an interest in science and its relevance to society.
An accompanying presentation of posters provides insight into the current development in water research and several other fields of joint scientific works. A number of research organizations will also present their programs providing participants and visitors with an overview about the long-standing cooperation between German and Israeli scientists.
The symposium is organized by the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) in Israel and the Federal Ministry of Education and Science (BMBF) in Germany. Both Ministries thank their Scientific Program Committees for the preparation of the Symposium. They also wish to thank the German-Israeli Foundation for Research and Development (GIF) for its contribution to the organization and the financial support of the conference.
