The Max Planck Society and the Weizmann Institute of Science have recently signed a contract for a joint excellence programme for postdoctoral researchers. The programme will accept a maximum of ten postdoctoral researchers annually. Candidates from the fields of physics, chemistry, geosciences, mathematics, and computer science can apply.The funding for the program will span four years. The first application phase begins in July.

The Quantum Future Academy (QFA) is a bi-national event that brings together students from Israel and Germany in two week-long academies on quantum technologies. The first part of the program in Israel takes place this week. Under the motto 'Today’s insights for tomorrow's experts', 30 students from 18 universities from Israel and Germany will gain an exclusive insight into quantum research.

On occasion of the HUJI-FUB Digital Humanities Winter School in Jerusalem on 27 February 2023, GIF Director Dr. Eric Zimmerman and Prof. Michael Hoch, Rector of University of Bonn and Acting Chair of the German U15, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for a joint series of meetings for early career scientists to be co-funded by GIF and the German U15.

Die israelische Industriellenvereinigung (Manufacturers‘ Association) und die beim Wissenschaftsministerium angesiedelte Raumfahrtagentur (Israel Space Agency) wollen der Raumfahrindustrie zu einem Wachstumsschub verhelfen. Für ausländische, darunter auch deutsche Unternehmen würde ein solcher Wachstumsschub zahlreiche Geschäftschancen mit sich bringen. Lake Kinneret is a key source of drinking and irrigation water for Israel and the kingdom of Jordan. The Lake’s major source (Jordan River) is tainted with various micropollutants, including DDT and Endosulphan, banned decades ago, yet, these are not detected in the receiving lake water. However, similar pollutants were found in Jordan River mouth sediments and the Lake’s fish. We hypothesize a link between the water’s particulate matter and bioaccumulation processes in the food web. more: Project researches effects of micropollutants on Lake Kinneret.

On 22 June 2022, Tel Aviv University (TAU) and Fraunhofer EMFT with guests from Israeli governmental and public bodies, industry and academia, celebrated the opening of the Fraunhofer Innovation Platform for Sensors and Applied Systems at Tel Aviv University – FIP-SENS@TAU. Together with nine other personalities from research, politics and society, Deutsche Telekom CEO Tim Höttges yesterday received an honorary doctorate from Ben Gurion University in Be'er Sheva, Israel. The university is thus honoring its long-standing cooperation with Deutsche Telekom. Together, the university and Telekom operate T-Labs Israel, where basic research is conducted into cybersecurity and analytics. On 7 December 2021, the agreement associating Israel to Horizon Europe entered into force, following the signature between Mariya Gabriel, Commissioner for Innovation, Research, Culture, Education and Youth, and Mr Haim Regev, Ambassador of Israel to the EU and NATO. German-Israeli joint project (FKZ - funding reference: 02WIL1388) successfully completed in spring 2019 - As part of the German-Israeli water technology cooperation, the Federal Institute for Hydrology (BfG), the TZW: DVGW Water Technology Center, vermiconAG, and the Israeli Galilee Society (GS) investigated three semi-natural wastewater treatment systems on their potential to remove wastewater-borne micro-pollutants, pathogens and antibiotic-resistant bacteria in three years of cooperation.
