German and Israeli research partners collaborate closely in the social sciences and humanities. Moreover, both sides are profoundly interested in the exploration of the history, culture and society of the other country.
The BMBF contributes substantially to the intensive research relations in the social sciences and humanities. German and Israeli partners benefit from BMBF support both within the large-scale bilateral cooperation schemes for all disciplines and within the framework programme for the further development of internationally oriented, trans-disciplinary social sciences and humanities in Germany.
Further, universities and research institutes cooperate in numerous joint projects in the social and cultural studies. At the same time, German-Jewish and German-Israeli relationships are the object of reciprocal scientific interest. Institutes in both countries are specifically dedicated to research about the referring other country. Topics include, among others, the common cultural and intellectual roots and traditions, the National Socialist genocide and the cultures of remembrance, and the analysis of the other state and society in present times.
