The German-Israeli Water Technology Cooperation Program – Call for Proposals 2017

Publication of funding guidelines for German-Israeli research and development projects in the field of water technology within the framework of the BMBF-MOST cooperation

Deadline: 10 May 2017

Water in sufficient quantity and quality is an essential basis of life. However, global water demand is constantly increasing with a simultaneous rapid decline in natural water resources and water-dependent ecosystems. This is all the more true in arid and semi-arid areas.

Germany and Israel, both globally recognised manufacturers of water technologies, work together to provide answers to these challenges. Within the framework of their cooperation, the German BMBF and the Israeli MOST support research and development projects in the field of water technology.

The comprehensive spectrum of the cooperation covers:

  • Increased water availability and quality
  • Wastewater treatment and re-use
  • Energy efficiency in the water sector
  • Ground water exlporation and restoration
  • Drinking water treatment and health aspects of the drinking water supply
  • Integrated water resource management.

Annual calls for proposals specify the subject areas for the new applications to be submitted. In 2017, the call will focus on water technologies for the reduction of agricultural water requirements as well as on the improvement of water desalination processes by reducing energy consumption and / or reducing the salt liquor produced.

The joint project proposals of the German and Israeli partners will be selected for funding after external assessments by BMBF and MOST. The project participants will be informed about the results of the evaluation in writing. There is no legal claim for the return of submitted documents.
