The German funding and intermediary organisations contribute significantly to the cooperation with Israel due to extensive activities. The German Research Foundation (DFG) mainly funds research projects with German-Israeli participation, while the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation (AvH) focus on individual funding.
With funding from the German Research Foundation, numerous German and Israeli partners are involved in research projects. In addition, the DFG implements the German-Israeli Project Cooperation (DIP).
The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) supports students and researchers from both countries in a variety of merit-based scholarship programmes. In 2014, it opened a new information centre in Tel Aviv. It maintains a broad alumni network in Israel.
Israeli scientists have been very successful in competing for the excellence-oriented research fellowships and awards of the Alexander von Humblodt Foundation. Young academics from Germany receive funding for research in Israel.
