Leopoldina

With its approximately 1,500 members, the Leopoldina brings together outstanding scientists from Germany, Austria, Switzerland and numerous other countries. The Academy, based in Halle an der Saale, works on important societal issues of the future from a scientific perspective, independently of economic or political interests, communicates the results to politicians and the public and represents these issues both nationally and internationally.

The Israel Academy of Sciences and Humanities IASH is one of the Leopoldina’s international strategic partners. In 2013, the Leopoldina signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the IASH; this cooperation was reaffirmed in June 2022. Both academies organise symposia in different scientific disciplines at regular intervals, in 2021 online on the topic of “Digitalisation and Democracy”. A scientific conference series has now been established in the field of neuroscience (The last symposium to date took place in June 2022. Topic: “Recent advances in the neurosciences”).

acatech

The German Academy of Science and Engineering (acatech) is a national academy funded by the Federal Government and the “Länder” and serves as the voice of the technical sciences in Germany and abroad. Under the patronage of the Federal President, it advises politics and society on technical and technological issues of the future.

Since 2015, acatech, founded in 2020, has been building its relations with Israeli institutions. A German-Israeli Research and Innovation Forum was held in Munich in February 2018. In 2019, there was an event on technology openness in industrial policy.
