Saxony doubles funding for student exchange with Israel
Saxony’s Ministry of Science is doubling the funding for an exchange programme with the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. In order to deepen bilateral relations between the Free State of Saxony and Israel, funding for the exchange programme will now be doubled from 15,000 euros to 30,000 euros.

Alliance of Science Organisations opposes boycott against Israeli science and research
The Alliance of Science Organisations in Germany supports the appeal of the Council of the Israel Academy of Sciences and Humanities of 20 May 2024 to the international scientific community and strongly opposes calls for a boycott of Israeli researchers and Israeli scientific institutions.

German Rectors’ Conference declares solidarity with Israeli universities
Thousands of academics and scientists worldwide have issued a call against boycotts and marginalising practices towards Israeli researchers. The President of the German Rectors’ Conference (HRK) has also signed the declaration and published a letter of solidarity from the HRK.

Bar-Ilan University receives 260 million dollar donation for tech investment
Bar-Ilan University has received an anonymous 260 million dollar donation earmarked for science and technology development. The unnamed donor was a Jewish North American and graduate of Columbia University who served in World War II, the university says.

EU convenes Association Council as Gaza boycotts spread
As more European universities review or cut ties with Israel, the EU will discuss its association agreement with Israel, which underpins scientific relations. It will therefore convene the EU-Israel Association Council. A concrete date for the meeting has not yet been set.

Bessel Research Prize for Israeli quantum physicist Ofer Firstenberg
Prof. Dr. Ofer Firstenberg from the Weizmann Institute of Science in Rehovot, Israel, has been awarded a Bessel Research Prize by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation. The Israeli quantum physicist works together with the Institute of Applied Physics at the University of Bonn.
