Call Information
In view of the worsening global water crisis, the German-Israeli water technology cooperation is continuing to develop water innovations that can be applied on a large scale. With a deadline set at 8 July 2026, the Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space (BMFTR) and the Israeli Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) are once again inviting researchers from both countries to submit proposals for bilateral research and development projects.
For the upcoming deadline, proposals are sought on the following topic:
- innovations in water technology and water systems
Priority will be given to project proposals for innovations that demonstrate potential for practical application. Simple resubmissions of previous research proposals under this programme will not be considered. The projects must be prepared and carried out jointly by the Israeli and German project partners. The call and the application form are also available on the MOST website: www.most.gov.il
The bilateral cooperation between BMFTR and MOST, involving annual calls for proposals on current priority topics in the field of water technology, has been in place since 1974. The overarching objectives of German-Israeli water technology cooperation are:
- Developing innovative solutions to water-related challenges in Israel, its neighbouring regions or Germany, with transferability to comparable regions
- Promoting the introduction of state-of-the-art water and environmental technologies in industry
- Supporting and strengthening bilateral and multilateral cooperation in the water sector, as well as cooperation between science and industry
Deadlines
Please note: On the Israeli side, there are again two deadlines to be observed for the submission of funding applications: As a first step, researchers must submit a preliminary project outline to the relevant department of their research institution via an online portal by 1 July 2026, 3pm (local time in Israel) at the latest. The final application must then be submitted by the respective research institution by 8 July 2026 at the latest.
For German applicants, only the deadline of 8 July 2026 applies.

Young researchers can also apply to the Young Scientist Research Program (YSEP).
