In a post on Facebook the Hebrew University of Jerusalem (HUJI) announces a new inter-university cooperation agreement between the Faculty of Humanities at HUJI and its counterpart at the University of Hamburg.
The agreement was formally launched at an event in Hamburg by Professor Patrick Benjamin Koch, Head of the Institute for Jewish Studies at the University of Hamburg, and Professor Avishai Bar-Asher, Chair of the Department of Jewish Thought at the Hebrew University.
The partnership was inaugurated as part of the academic conference “Crossing Texts and Traditions”, which brought together scholars, doctoral candidates, and research students from both institutions. The participation of young researchers from Jerusalem and Hamburg reflected one of the central aims of this collaboration: to strengthen the next generation of humanities scholarship and to cultivate a vibrant, sustained, and international space for academic exchange.
The conference was supported by a generous regional research grant. In addition, a new annual DAAD grant was announced last week, which will fund research stays for three doctoral students from Hamburg at HUJI’s Faculty of Humanities each year.
This new partnership marks an important step in deepening the international academic ties between the two Faculties, while advancing collaborative research in Jewish Studies, Jewish Thought, textual traditions, and the broader humanities.
