Educational challenges and opportunities following October 7: a series of workshops for trainers, teachers at vocational schools and educational professionals working in vocational education and training.
The terrorist attacks on the Israeli civilian population on 7 October 2023 and the resulting war are also having an impact in Germany – including on youth and educational work. Discussions about Israel and the Middle East conflict often give rise to oversimplified portrayals of the conflict, and in some cases even anti-Semitic arguments. Furthermore, verbal and physical attacks on Jewish people in Germany have risen sharply since 7 October. Youth and education professionals face the challenge of responding appropriately to such situations.
In the workshops of the ‘WE ARE CONNECTED’ series, participants can discuss current challenges and develop solutions in an open and safe space. Drawing on perspectives from Israel, the consequences and implications of the events of 7 October for Israeli society and in Germany will be discussed.
The Israel Programme is organising three further workshops this year in cooperation with ConAct – Co-ordination Centre for German-Israeli Youth Exchange:
- Workshop 1: 3 September 2026, Magdeburg
- Workshop 2: 9 September, Münster
- Workshop 3: 29 September in Frankfurt
The workshops are aimed at trainers, vocational college teachers and educational professionals working in vocational training.
What participants can expect:
- To learn about the manifestations and identifying characteristics of antisemitism
- Examine the events of 7 October and their consequences for Israel and Germany
- Explore methodological approaches to preventing anti-Semitism and addressing the Middle East conflict from multiple perspectives
- Explore educational methods for German-Israeli exchange programmes
- Reflect on their own experiences and engage in professional dialogue
Participation is free of charge. The workshops will take place in central locations in the respective cities. The venue will be communicated with the confirmation of participation.
