A joint event organised by: the German-Israeli Society AG Bonn, the Haus der Geschichte der Bundesrepublik Deutschland Foundation, and the Konrad Adenauer Foundation e.V.
On 12 May 1965, the Federal Republic of Germany and Israel officially established diplomatic relations – a historic milestone following the crimes of the Shoah. Just one year later, in March 1966, the German-Israeli Society e.V. (DIG) was founded in Bonn to foster friendship between the people of both countries beyond the realm of high politics.
Together with the Haus der Geschichte der Bundesrepublik Deutschland Foundation and the Konrad Adenauer Foundation e.V., the DIG organises this event to look back on an eventful history: How have civil society, cultural and political ties developed over the decades? How are these relations experienced in the present day, which is characterised by serious crises and security challenges? And above all: how can this friendship be secured and shaped for the future?
Panel discussion with Dr Daniel Aschheim (Head of Public Relations at the Embassy of the State of Israel), Volker Beck (President of the German-Israeli Society e.V.), Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer (former Federal Minister and Chair of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation) and former Ambassador Steffen Seibert (German Ambassador to Tel Aviv, 2022–2026).
Moderator: Dr Martin Kloke (journalist)
