As part of the exhibition Architecture in the Realm of Art by John Günther – currently on display at the Hamburg Architecture Summer 2026 – Dr Ines Sonder will speak about the reception of the Bauhaus and German-Jewish cultural heritage in Israel. The art historian and research fellow at the Moses Mendelssohn Centre for European-Jewish Studies at the University of Potsdam has conducted research into Jewish architectural exile in Palestine, pioneering female architects and the legacy of the Bauhaus movement, and works as an exhibition curator in Germany and Israel.
The exhibition itself features 20 works by the Hamburg painter and community member John Günther – colourful, asymmetrical cityscapes, including a poignant image of the Bornplatz Synagogue prior to the 1938 pogrom. The exhibition runs until 7 May, Tuesday to Sunday from 2 pm to 7 pm.
Please be aware that ID checks may be carried out at the entrance and do not bring any bags.
