Job Opportunity: Germany Liaison & Program Manager (Maternity Leave Replacement)

The German Israeli Foundation for Scientific Research and Development (GIF) is seeking a dynamic, highly motivated, and detail-oriented individual to join their team as Germany Liaison & Program Manager (maternity leave cover from October 2025 till October/November 2026).

Established in 1986 by the Ministries of Science of the Federal Republic of Germany and the State of Israel, GIF promotes cutting-edge scientific cooperation between the two countries. GIF’s main activity is the support of joint and individual research projects conducted exclusively by German and Israeli scientists. Since its establishment, GIF has funded 2,033 projects with a total budget exceeding €265 million.

The position is based in Israel. The candidate should be flexible regarding working arrangements: in-office (Tel Aviv / Jerusalem), hybrid, or remote. Some domestic and international travel may be required.

About the Position

This temporary role offers a unique opportunity to be at the heart of German Israeli scientific collaboration. The selected candidate will work closely with our team in Israel, German research institutions, and international partners.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the principal point of contact for German academic institutions and researchers
  • Provide first-line support to German applicants and administrators
  • Liaise between the website development team, internal staff, and users
  • Develop and publish content for the website and social media (including scientific news and stories)
  • Support CRM management: data queries, reporting, and system upkeep
  • Co-manage GIF’s scientific meetings with the Director
  • Assist with scientific processes and inquiries from Research Authorities
  • Coordinate logistics for the German Young Scientists Meeting (GYSM)
  • Support planning and follow-up for the Annual Board of Governors meeting
  • Organize events in Germany and delegations to Israel
  • Support the Scientific Manager, especially during the ongoing GIF Nexus application cycle
  • Maintain core Foundation documentation
  • Perform additional tasks as assigned by the Director

Required Qualifications

  • Native-level proficiency in German
  • Full professional fluency in English
  • A proactive, “can-do” attitude and strong sense of responsibility
  • Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively
  • Comfort with multitasking and meeting deadlines
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • A high level of diplomacy, discretion, and integrity

Desirable (but not required)

  • Experience in communications, CRM systems, or event coordination
  • Familiarity with academic or scientific environments

Travel: Occasional travel to Germany is required
