The German-Israeli Foundation for Scientific Research and Development (GIF) is looking to fill the position of GIF Director as of February 2025.
The German-Israeli Foundation for Scientific Research and Development was established in 1986 as a legal entity in Israel, headquartered in Jerusalem. The founders are the Federal Republic of Germany and the State of Israel. The purpose of the Foundation is to support bilateral civilian research and development projects of mutual interest.
The successful candidate is expected to show great commitment in running the Foundation’s funding operations and working towards building stronger German-Israeli science relations. The working language is English.
Responsibilities:
- Manage the Foundation’s Secretariat in Jerusalem
- Prepare and implement the Foundation’s programmes on the basis of its funding regulations
- Communicate and maintain trusting relationships with the Foundation’s Board of Governors and implement Board decisions
- Oversee the Foundation’s budget, financial performance, investments and other business ventures
- Support and liaise with the Investment Committee, Controller and Scientific Committees
- Organize and implement Foundation events
- Represent the Foundation externally
Requirements:
Candidates should be able to demonstrate the following:
- Strategic planning and management abilities in a public organization that deals with science funding
- Familiarity with the professional management of scientific programmes, budgets and human resources
- Proven experience with the Israeli and German academic research systems as well as the funding and project proposal review and funding procedures
- Excellent communication skills
- Excellent team-building skills
- Master’s degree or higher. Ph.D is an asset.
All GIF business is conducted in English. An excellent knowledge of English is therefore required; knowledge of German and Hebrew would be of advantage.
The Director of the GIF will be appointed by the Board of Governors for a period of four years with the option of one reappointment.
