This year, the Central Council of Jews in Germany (Zentralrat der Juden in Deutschland) is awarding its highest honour, the Leo Baeck Prize, to the cabaret artist, author and presenter Dieter Nuhr. The Central Council of Jews is thereby recognising his resolute commitment to combating anti-Semitism in the media landscape.

The award ceremony will take place on Wednesday, 10 June 2026 in Berlin. The laudatory speech will be delivered by the psychologist and author Ahmad Mansour.

The President of the Central Council of Jews in Germany, Dr Josef Schuster, emphasises: “For some time now, Dieter Nuhr has been speaking out against anti-Semitism with outstanding clarity in his work. In doing so, he uses his role as a cabaret artist and his platform on public service broadcasting to consistently expose double standards in the German debate on Israel. Through his work, he provides a counterpoint to anti-Semitic narratives in the German media landscape and clearly positions himself on the side of Jewish life.”

Since 1957, the Central Council of Jews in Germany has honoured individuals who have shown exceptional commitment to the Jewish community with the Leo Baeck Prize. The award, worth 15,000 euros, preserves the memory of Rabbi Leo Baeck OBM. Previous laureates include prominent figures such as former Federal President Richard von Weizsäcker (1994), former Federal Chancellor Angela Merkel (2007), former Federal Minister Cem Özdemir (2022) and Borussia Dortmund President Hans-Joachim Watzke (2024).
